Upcoming Changes for Technical Engagement at ISA

ISA is excited about some upcoming changes to the way members engage around technical topics. We are launching a new way for you to Connect around automation technologies and processes. With this engagement across sectors, we will learn, share our expertise and grow as professionals for the duration of our careers.
With this new engagement model, ISA is sunsetting divisions effective 31 December. This difficult decision came after long deliberations considering feedback from current and former members.

Commonly Asked Questions

  • Who proposed this change? A taskforce set up by the Executive Board, most of whom were current or former division volunteers, met weekly for over a year. The taskforce also met multiple times with the directors of all the divisions, as well as the members of the technical assembly and the content steering committee. Ultimately, the decision was made by the Executive Board.
  • Will there be opportunities for industry-specific communities and activities? No. The focus of engagement will be on technical topics and processes that impact multiple sectors.
  • What if my expertise is in a specific industry? Within Connect, members are encouraged to think of topics first, industry second — driving innovative conversations and reflecting broader technological trends. The cross-pollination of knowledge sharing by topic will generate meaningful connections among our community of automation professionals. Members will continue to be able to address technical challenges related to a specific industry with the new mindset being “topic first.”

ISA’s technical divisions are open only to ISA members. Covering a wide variety of industries and technologies, members are encouraged to join as many divisions as they choose.

Through your division, you will:

  • Build a network of peers working in similar settings
  • Receive access to the division community and communications
  • Participate in live, online technical discussions in ISA Connect Live
  • Learn in ISA OnPoint technical presentations
  • Discover opportunities to gain leadership and technical expertise through the division board or writing technical content
